Breath & Philosophy: Exploring the Upanishads

A New Offering - Starting April 16th, 2026

Dear friends,

I'm inviting you into something I've been longing to create: a space to explore yogic philosophy together - not as students and teacher, but as fellow seekers gathered around the hearth of ancient wisdom.

What we'll do: We'll read and discuss passages from the Upanishads (some of the foundational philosophical texts of yoga) and embody these teachings through pranayama practice. Each session will include breathwork, contemplative reading, discussion, and integration.

Why combine breath and philosophy? The ancient yogis understood that breath and consciousness are intimately connected. Philosophy alone can stay in the head; breathwork alone can lack meaning. Together, they become embodied wisdom - which is what yoga has always been about.

What this is:

  • A space for genuine inquiry and exploration

  • Collaborative learning (I'm not the expert - we're discovering together)

  • Integration of practice and understanding

  • A community of curiosity

What this isn't:

  • Academic or scholarly (no prior knowledge needed)

  • Guru/disciple dynamic (just peers exploring together)

  • Intimidating or exclusive (all sincere seekers welcome)

The Details:

  • When: Thursdays, 11:30am-12:45pm (75 minutes)

  • Where: Online, on Zoom, live only, no recordings available to protect confidentiality.

  • Format: Weekly for 11 weeks

  • First session: 4/16/2026

  • Cost: $220

  • What to bring: Comfortable clothes, journal, open mind

Our first session: We'll explore the Isha Upanishad - a short, profound text about finding freedom through engaging fully with life while recognizing the divine in all things. Perfect for our times.

A note on my role: I'm not a scholar or guru. I'm a practitioner and teacher who loves these teachings and wants to go deeper in community. I'll facilitate our gatherings, guide pranayama practices, and hold space for our collective exploration. But the wisdom will emerge from all of us together.

Is this for you? If you're curious about the philosophy behind yoga, if you want to explore breathwork with intention and meaning, if you're hungry for contemplative community - yes, this is for you. No experience with pranayama or philosophy required. Just bring your curiosity and willingness to explore.

I hope you'll join me for this experiment in breathing and thinking together.

With gratitude, Serena

P.S. If you're curious but unsure, reach out with questions. And if this isn't your thing but you know someone who might love it, please share this invitation.
